At UConn, we are fully aware of the under representation of minority groups within STEM. As such, the UConn NSBE chapter was created to provide a sense of community for those students, while at the same time trying to provide support through various resources and employment opportunities. As part of the wider Black community, we have an important role to play. We at UConn NSBE will always strive to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, professionally, and positively impact the community.
As a response to the widespread support for the #BlackLivesMatter movement following the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and many more, the UConn NSBE chapter has decided to launch a brand new social media initiative. This initiative will focus on highlighting the accomplishments of Black people both throughout history and at UConn. Furthermore, the initiative will also focus on promoting Black businesses in the community and providing educational resources for others to learn about the plight of racism, the history of Black culture and the works that have been produced from it.
The goal of this campaign is not only to hold true to our mission statement, but to inspire a wave of belief in the community and continue to push for positive change, both at UConn and beyond.
