What does the NSBE Mission mean to you?

To me the NSBE Mission statement means to promote responsibility, academics, and professionalism in Black engineers as to further us in our careers. I also believe that it emphasizes the need to not only better yourself and your colleagues but also to give back to your community in such a way that will positively impact it.

What has been your favorite UConn NSBE moment?

My favorite UConn NSBE moment has to be when I volunteered for EYF (Engineering Your Future). It was amazing to be able to help spread knowledge to underrepresented students about the field of engineering. A lot of the kids really enjoyed the day and it made me feel great to be a part of making that happen.

What type of leader are you?

I am both a strong and considerate leader. I say this because I am the type of leader who will make sure everyone is heard and feels like their thoughts and ideas are being respected. When it comes down to making the tough decisions though I understand that everyone cannot be pleased and will make the best decision for my group.

What are your professional or career goals?

After I graduate I hope to get a job as a software engineer. I am not set on working at one place in particular but places that I would like to work range from Google or Amazon, to UTC. I would also like to continue to volunteer my time to help spread knowledge to underprivileged youth about the field of engineering.

How have you made an impact within the community through UConn NSBE?

Yes, I have made an impact within my community through UConn NSBE. I volunteered for We Lift to the Future in Hartford at the YMCA in which we interacted with the youth and helped them learn more about what engineering is. We had a lot of fun there since we not only spoke to the children about engineering but we also got them up and active by playing some basketball with them for a while.

How has UConn NSBE helped you achieve your goals? Whether personal, academic, or career wise?

UConn NSBE is helping me achieve my goals by helping me meet professionals who can give me more information and insight into what employers are looking for in an applicant. UConn NSBE has also helped me become more involved in our community through volunteering opportunities, which is one of my personal goals. I really enjoy being a part of these events and appreciate all the effort the people who plan them put into them behind the scenes.

What advice would you give to other UConn NSBE members/prospective members about our chapter?

Some advice I would like to give to other UConn NSBE members/prospective members is to be active! You should really help out with volunteering opportunities any chance you get because it is rewarding to help someone in need and you can make a ton of friends and connections in the process.
